Spring or Fall Window Cleaning in Pointe-Claire, Which Is Better?

If you can only book one exterior window cleaning a year in Pointe-Claire, spring usually gives the bigger visible change, because it strips the salt film, winter grime and early pollen that built up over five months. Fall matters more than people think, though: it clears leaf grit, sap and summer dust before they sit on the glass all winter. Most West Island homes with mature trees or a lakeside exposure do best with both.

What winter leaves on Pointe-Claire windows

Between November and March, the exterior glass collects a mix that is hard to see until the sun gets low in the sky: road salt spray from Boulevard Saint-Jean and Highway 20, dried snowmelt, furnace exhaust residue near vents, and the grey film that forms when freeze and thaw cycles keep wetting and drying the same dust. By April the windows facing the street or the prevailing wind are often noticeably duller than the rest.

A spring visit removes all of that before pollen season adds its own yellow layer in May and June. It is also the moment to spot anything winter damaged, like a torn screen or a sill where water is pooling.

What the summer and fall leave behind

Pointe-Claire has a lot of mature maples, oaks and lindens, especially in the older streets near the village and along the lakeshore. Through summer and into October, windows pick up:

  • tree sap and honeydew from aphids, which dry into sticky dots
  • pollen and seed fluff caught in the frames
  • spider webs and insect remains in corners and on sills
  • fine leaf grit that rain turns into streaks
  • mist and spray marks on lake-facing glass

Left in place, this residue bakes on through the last warm weeks and then sits under ice and snow until spring. It does not usually etch glass on its own, but it makes the spring cleaning harder and the windows look tired for the whole dark season, which is exactly when you look out of them most.

If you only book one

Go with spring if your home is close to a busy, heavily salted road, if your windows face north or the street, or if you mostly use your yard and deck in summer. Go with fall if you have big trees close to the house, a lake view you want clear in winter, or if you are hosting family over the holidays and want the house looking its best.

A practical point for this year: exterior work runs from about March to November, so if you are reading this in early November, the window for a fall visit is short. Interior glass can be cleaned year-round, so if the outside has to wait until spring, the inside does not.

Why many West Island homes book both

Two cleanings a year split the load, so neither visit is fighting six months of buildup. Each one is lighter work on the glass and frames, and the windows never go a full year without attention. Altara runs a bi-annual program for exactly this: it sends you automated reminders for a spring and a fall visit, so you do not have to remember to book. The bi-annual and annual programs do not carry a discount. Discounts apply only to quarterly (10%), bi-monthly (15%) and monthly (20%) service.

Quarterly service makes sense for a smaller group of homes: those right on the lakeshore, those next to construction, or anyone who simply wants the glass looking freshly cleaned most of the year.

What an exterior visit covers

The flat rate is for the exterior. You pick your window-count tier online on the pricing page, and the crew cleans the glass, frames and sills with pure deionized water on a water-fed pole, rinsing screens in place. Pure water dries without spots, so there is no soap left on the glass to attract dust. The pole reaches up to three storeys from the ground, which covers the bungalows, split-levels and two-storey homes common in Pointe-Claire. Taller or hard-access homes get a site visit first.

Interior glass, screen removal and washing, and track cleaning are optional add-ons you can choose at booking. Skylights, solariums, heavy mineral stains and post-construction cleanup are quoted separately. The crew does not repair screens, but it will point out any tears it sees so you can get them fixed before bug season. If you notice a streak, report it within 24 hours and the crew comes back to fix it at no charge.

For more on what the service includes across the region, see the residential window cleaning page or the Pointe-Claire service page.

Small things that help either visit

  • Move patio furniture, planters and barbecue covers a few feet away from the walls.
  • Trim branches that touch the glass or block the pole's path.
  • Unlock side gates and let the crew know about pets in the yard.
  • Note any windows that stick or screens you already know are damaged.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to clean windows in spring or fall?

Spring usually makes the biggest visible difference because it removes winter salt film and grime. Fall is close behind for homes with large trees or lake exposure, since it clears sap and leaf grit before winter. If you can, do both.

How often should you clean the outside of your windows in Pointe-Claire?

Twice a year, spring and fall, suits most homes in Pointe-Claire. Homes on the lakeshore, near construction or on busy roads may want quarterly service, which also carries a 10% discount.

Is November too late for exterior window cleaning?

Early November often still works on dry days above freezing, but the exterior season ends around then. If the weather closes in, book the outside for spring and have the interior glass done in the meantime.

Does the fall visit include inside windows?

No. The flat rate covers the exterior only. Interior glass, screen removal and washing, and track cleaning can be added as paid options when you book.
